Dean's Blues

LISTEN / BUY CD / APPLE MUSIC

Dean’s Blues is released through Bombora Records in Adelaide and features songs taken from my first two CD’s, Not Really the Blues (2003) and She’s on The Other Side (2007). I picked the ones that had been recorded well and could be brought up to speed. Doug Weaver oversaw the new production. The songs have all been reworked in some way. Remastered, remixed, one even re-recorded. The songs, largely influenced by the blues, are my attempt to get close to the music that inspired me on my own journey and still does.

“Thomas plays acoustic and National guitars and sings like Eric Clapton doing JJ Cale” - Al Hensley, Rhythms

“Not Really the Blues...more like bliss! - Graeme Davey.

“…an album all blues players and fans alike will be happy to have spinning in the CD player”Chris Peridis, Australian Guitar

Greyhound To Mecca

LISTEN / BUY CD / APPLE MUSIC

Greyhound to Mecca (2010) has some country influence as well as roots and rock. This is another Bombora release. David Minear, who owns Bombora, tells me it’s his favourite album cover on his label. As with all my covers it was done in collaboration with designer Daniel Poskitt. Some people think this is my best record and say the songs have meant a lot to them. The Sydney Morning Herald review was a real thrill for me.

Sydney based singer-songwriter Dean Thomas' third album is an unassuming gem, his story-based songs jump from Darlinghurst to Nashville - appropriately blending contemporary and country.

- Paul Smith, SMH

Big Island

All the songs on this album have an Australian story or theme. I first recorded this in 2012 with producer Doug Weaver, but I was’t happy with it so I sat on it for a couple of years. I asked Doug if we could look at it again and we finally got it right. Two songs from this album, Up North and Lasseter’s Last Ride, are up on YouTube.

Songs For Other People

LISTEN / BUY CD / APPLE MUSIC

My latest. This is me getting a bit more melodic, wanting to write songs that other people may want to record. This is the only record I have made without using a band. I went into Doug Weaver’s studio and recorded most of the songs live, just me and a guitar. Doug then added string and brass arrangements over the top. And we both added extra guitar and vocal parts. We left one of the songs, Sometimes Fish, with just me and the guitar as it seemed right as it was. It’s a fairly raw and honest approach. Of course, I had never heard the songs myself until I recorded them, quite revealing. Without any promotion, it is getting some plays on Apple Music.
